Help Us Protect Our Green Spaces – Fire Safety Reminder

Dear Resident

As we enjoy the final weeks of summer before the clocks change, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service is reminding everyone to stay fire-aware while spending time outdoors.

Despite recent thundery showers, the warm and dry conditions we've experienced since spring still pose a serious risk. Fires can start and spread quickly, especially in grasslands and agricultural areas across our region.

To help raise awareness, we’re installing new signs across the Humber area with a clear message:
🚫 No BBQs or fires

This initiative, proposed by Watch Manager Dan Hind, aims to prevent further incidents and protect our natural spaces. Between March and July, our region saw:
• 1,143 deliberate secondary fires
• 343 accidental secondary fires
Most occurred in May, highlighting the ongoing risk.

If you're heading outdoors, please follow this advice: 

✅ Dispose of litter properly – use a bin or take it home
✅ Ensure cigarettes are fully extinguished
✅ Say no to campfires and disposable BBQs – they often become litter and can harm wildlife

If you see a fire:

📍 Use the what3words app to share your location
⚠️ Stay at a safe distance – do not attempt to extinguish the fire yourself
